SSY appoints Dimitris Kyrtsos as Global Co-Head of Sale and Purchase division as part of wider Athens expansion
SSY, the world’s largest independent shipbroker, has today announced the appointment of Dimitris Kyrtsos to the newly created role of Global Co-Head of Sale and Purchase, effective immediately.
Beginning his career at SSY as a Derivatives Broker, Kyrtsos has built an impressive reputation in the S&P space having spent 13 years at Braemar where he held a number of senior positions including Head of Braemar Athens and Global Co-Head of Sale and Purchase.
Based at SSY’s new, expanded Athens office, Kyrtso s is joined by Senior Brokers Nikos Katsaras and Marios Yiannopoulos as well as S&P Broker, Filippos Zannos and S&P Research Analyst, Alexandra Alatari.
Speaking on today’s announcement, Toby English, SSY Partner and Global Co-Head of Sale and Purchase comments; “I’m delighted to welcome Dimitris and the team to SSY. On a personal note, I’m also excited that Dimitris will be joining me in his new role to jointly guide our department forward”.
English continues: “It has been a very exciting period of growth for us over the past three years having expanded to 50 S&P and Newbuilding brokers across 10 countries. This in turn has resulted in a significant increase both in terms of the volume of business we are transacting and the areas of S&P and Newbuilding business that we are now involved in. Today’s announcement will only accelerate our expansion strategy and I look forward to more exciting developments in the future”.
Speaking on his return to SSY, Dimitris Kyrtsos comments: “I’m both eager and excited to return to a company that is not only expanding globally in the most dynamic way under its new leadership but is also deeply committed to the Greek market, as evidenced by its growing local presence. Thanks to its strategic growth in recent years, SSY has ensured that it will be at the forefront of developments in the Shipping Industry for the foreseeable future. I am particularly thrilled to be working alongside Toby English and our talented colleagues around the world as we continue to strengthen SSY’s influence in key markets and I look forward to contributing to the next chapter of success at SSY, both locally and globally”.
Having opened its doors in Athens in January 2022, SSY’s presence has grown substantially over the past two years, expanding from an initial headcount of three to the current 27 shipping experts which cover a range of markets including dry chartering, S&P, LNG and operations.
To accommodate this growth and as a sign of its confidence in and commitment to the Greek shipping community, SSY has recently relocated to a larger office in the Capital.
Speaking on SSY’s ongoing expansion, Stanko Jekov, Managing Partner, SSY comments; “We have seen significant growth in our S&P offering over the past few years under Toby’s expert leadership and today’s announcement is the logical next step for us.
